ABOUT WEST LIBERTY UMC

HISTORY
West Liberty United Methodist Church has served as a spiritual home and place of community for over 184 years. Established in 1840 when Washington and Ella Ridgely sold land for worship, education, and burial purposes, our church was recognized in 1898 as Chapter 19119 of the Epworth League. Additional land was acquired in 1911 to expand the cemetery. Over the years, the church underwent name changes following major denominational mergers—becoming West Liberty Methodist Church in 1939 and later West Liberty United Methodist Church after the 1968 merger with the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Today, we continue to honor our legacy of faith, fellowship, and service, rooted in the love of Christ.
